Samsung LN46B650 Reviews

Launched in Spring 2009 the Samsung LN46B650 lcd tv has been well received by the consumer. Backed up by the quality and respect that Samsung television panels receive around the world it is expected that the LN46B650 will follow suit and become a very popular lcd television. This current model supersedes the LN46A650 that was launched in 2008. That particular set went on to become one of the best selling LCD tv's of the last 12 months. So expectations are high but want are the early signs.

The Future of HDTV

I have just taken delivery of the Samsung Samsung LN46B650 HDTV and what struck me the most over last years model is the sloped V type bottom edge which makes this a fantastic looking set. The six series of the new Samsung line up come with a smart looking glass base and its just a simple case of slipping the panel onto its stem. So set up time from removing the tv from its box and having it ready for connecting it to my components took literally a minute or two to perform. This was very welcome because in the past I have had trouble putting all the bits together and has usually ending up been a 2 man job.
Having got the tv in position and taking a step back the quality of the LN46B650 is superb and is one of the best looking HDTV panels I have seen. I have got quite a large living room and I didn't find the 46 inch screen lost in its surrounding space.

The amount of components that connect to the LN46B650 lcd tv is more than enough for even the most ardent video/audio enthusiast. I rigged up my cable service, bluray player, Sony PS3 and a wireless ethernet connection as per the instruction manual and set about calibrating the panel to suit my individual viewing tastes. The defaults produced extremely good results and tweaking the settings using the onscreen menus was breeze. Initial results were pleasing with the blacks on Dark Knight outstanding. I have only seen better blacks on the latest LED lcd's but you are paying a premium for such clarity at the moment and I don't think the extra cost is viable. Again the PS3 games I threw at it were equally impressive but it was the watching sports that the LN46B650 really shone. The 120Hz Motion Plus feature resulted in a less blurry motion of sports players, something that is usual for lcd tv's.

Sound quality was pretty good and extra settings included TruSurround that delivered a good stereo response. But these days any tv of this size deserves a dedicated cinema system to get the best from the quality of media that is available to the consumer.

Play back of movie files from a USB pen drive was the feature that I was most looking forward to trying out. Playback was flawless and the LN46B650 was capable of playing anything that I threw at it. This is definitely the way to go if you have a vast library of video files. Subtitles are also viewable. I even managed to connect my backup external drive via the USB port and had every audio/video file ready to play at the flick of a button. Looks like I am going to need some extra storage space.

Now lets have look at what will probably be the future of how we the consumer will view online content via our televisions. OK so the addition of internet tv to this set is most welcome and the ability to view Youtube vids is definitely a way forward. Lets hope that future developments in this technology will carry on and that the amount of online content we can view will enhance our viewing pleasures.

Overall the Samsung LN46B650 is a fantastic lcd panel that produces a brilliant picture. I would not be surprised if this tv goes on to be another winner for Samsung.
